GFL Environmental

Sometimes, the most interesting stories are hidden in plain sight. We see the bright green trucks in our neighbourhoods every week, but few of us stop to think about what happens after they drive away. That was the challenge GFL Environmental brought to us: how to tell the full story of their company—a story not just about waste collection, but about sustainability, innovation, and the circular economy.

GFL wanted to move beyond the typical "shots from the dump" and showcase their complex processes in a way that was engaging and easy to understand. Inspired by our work on the Springbank Off-Stream Storage Reservoir, they asked us to create a unique, stylized animation that could explain their operations without getting bogged down in the gritty reality of waste management.

To get it right, our team traveled to their Moose Creek site to see the operations firsthand and hear the story directly from the experts. We then collaborated with Anders J. Svensson to craft a script that simplified these complex systems into a clear narrative. Finally, we worked with Beau at Ear Candy to record the voiceover in both English and French—ensuring the message resonated just as well for GFL's "Matrec" brand in Quebec. We loved collaborating to get the creative juices flowing.

The result is a dynamic marketing video that uses stylized 3D animation to reveal the hidden life of our waste and the innovative ways GFL is giving it a second life. It’s a project that proves even the most industrial subjects can be beautiful when you look at them through the right lens.
